GZPL Language and supporting Seagull driver are now released

Godex’s new printer language GZPL (Godex Zebra® Printer Language) Z3.103 is ready and supported by Seagull driver version 7.1.9_M-1.

General Description

GZPL is a new printer language developed by Godex to print label formats which are programmed by Zebra ZPL II® language. The GZPL language has the capability to perform true plug-n-play compatibility with ZPL II®. Now customer can use Godex printers to run their existing ZPL II® applications without any need to modify the label format programming codes.

To provide the best support of GZPL, the Godex Seagull printer driver version 7.1.9_M-1 now includes Godex GZPL models in its supported printers list. With the new Seagull driver, 7.1.9_M-1 all of Godex printer languages are supported including EZPL, GEPL (Godex Eltron® Printer Language) and GZPL.

Godex GZPL Printer Models

All Godex printers can now support GZPL language. Please refer to this chart for Godex GZPL models and its compatible printer type.

Once the corresponding GZPL firmware is downloaded to a standard Godex printer, the printer’s model name will internally be changed to Godex GZPL model name. If you connect the GZPL model to PC with USB port, you can find the new GZPL model name (USB string) popup on the screen. The corresponding model name between Godex standard models and Godex GZPL models are listed below.

How to Download and Configure GZPL firmware

The GZPL firmware can be easily downloaded with Godex’s firmware download tool. Just connect the printer to PC with any supported connection port and do the firmware downloading with DownloadTool.exe. If you need assistance, please call us, we will be glad to help.

After GZPL firmware is successfully downloaded to the printer, there is a configuration that needs to be given extra attention.

The command set “^XA^JUF^XZ” must be sent to printer right after the firmware downloading is completed to set the printer back to factory default.

Known Restrictions and Limitations

Godex has gone to great lengths to make its GEPL printer language as accurate as possible. However, like all language simulations, it is not 100% perfect.

Mechanism Difference

There may be some different printing results that occur in a few cases that are caused by the inherent design differences in mechanisms. The difference will mainly be apparent on the conversion of dots per millimeter.

Printing speed limitation on EZ-2300Plus

To ensure the best printing quality and precise printing position, the maximum printing speed of EZ-2300Plus is reduced from 6 IPS to 4 IPS when printing with GZPL firmware.

Command Variance

Because of the difference on mechanism design and firmware construction, there may be some different syntax and printing results on few commands.

Seagull Driver for Godex GZPL Models

The Seagull printer driver is the standard Windows driver for all Godex printers. To extend the functionality of GZPL models, Godex and Seagull have worked closely to optimize the GZPL driver and release with Seagull driver version 7.1.9_M-1. Besides the addition of GZPL support, driver version 7.1.9_M-1 also includes the improvements and modifications as follows.

Added applicator support for EZ-2000 Plus and EZ-6000 Plus series printers.

Changed minimum paper height to 4 mm for all models.

Improved driver stability on the Windows 64-bit platform.

Improved the TCP/IP port close logic to eliminate the possibility of print jobs being

lost in the spool queue.

Improved stability on multi-core computers.

Changed the default value of “Printable Width”, “Minimum Width”, “Maximum

Width” and “Maximum Length” that showed on “Printer Specification” page

according to the hardware specification of Godex printers.
